Santa Monica, California – The Playground of the Pacific
Along Santa Monica’s wide, shining strand, the Pacific unfurls steady beach breaks that sweep both left and right over soft sandbars. When long Pacific swells arrive, the waves rise into clean, rolling faces that invite the bold to launch their heavy surf planks into motion. Here the ocean performs its daily pageant before strolling crowds, offering sunlit splendor and a curious new sport that has the whole coast buzzing.

FBI Field Report - Interview Record

Further inquiry establishes the subject previously identifying himself as “Fiji Tahiti” is in fact Dirk Hearst, distant heir to the Hearst newspaper estate. Family sources state he was formally disowned at age twelve for persistent listlessness and refusal to participate in structured education. No criminal record. No known employment history. Only notable personal trait is a sustained and inappropriate good mood.

Interview with Elias Mercer, 29, Dock Hand: “You have no idea what the ocean is doing. It’s always watching us. It wants things. It gets what it wants.” Subject refused further elaboration and requested to be excused from proximity to the water.

Four commercial divers reported missing during routine maintenance operations offshore. No remains recovered. No equipment found. Disappearances temporally coincide with the northward movement of the swell. Cause unknown.
